Various Primary Research

Here are some images I took of menus for my primary research. Firstly there are window displays showing menus or meal advertisements. The first 2 pictures feature a white background with black writing then feature small sections of colour which match the logo of the restaurant. Although this is simple and easy to read it can be slightly boring and not eye catching. Also it is just laminated paper stuck to the window which doesn't look very professional. The next picture is of a similar design with black, white and a small amount of colour but is in an enclosed display which looks more professional. The next 2 pictures are of  a fast food shop and an advertisement in its window. The design is very basic but it is for a cheap fast food shop so its never going to be too a high standard. However it features red and yellow which stand out and match the logo of the shop. This is also in an enclosed display which looks better than posters or paper stuck to the window. The next 2 pictures are of pub menus and are on the traditional blackboard with chalk. This immediately identifies the place as a pub and gives a warm, cosy ambience. Personally I like this style of menu because its unique. Also, due to the material used, it allows prices or meals to be changed easily as they can be rubbed off and re-written. Also the fonts aren't boring and I like the addition of a cartoon drawing which makes a change to the common photograph of a steaming coffee. Finally there is a picture of a new menu display in a fast food shop. This wall display is similar to what is required in the refectory. The logo is incorporated and matches the background which looks good. Also the text is easy to read and stands out in white against the darker background. This board looks professional but relies on the prices and meals remaining constant, which isn't the case in the College refectory.
